Water carving a planter

I’ve been playing around with the concept of being an indigenous person but having never visited Guam and being not native to the place where I grew up or where I live now.

I spent some time doing my second-ever water carving project and expressing this idea and I’m excited to see how it turns out after bisque firing. Water carving is the process of adding a design using wax and then wiping away the surrounding clay with a sponge. This creates a relief design that can be pretty striking. Most potters use porcelain for this process but I’m using stoneware. This clay (Cinco Blanco by Armadillo) turned out to be easy to work with, but a past project was super sandy!
